What do Diversity & Inclusion look like at CI?

We are culturally and ethically diverse. In 2022-2023, these were our demographics:
    • American Indian or Alaska Native: 3.2%
    • Asian: 9.7%
    • African American, not of Hispanic Origin: 16.1%
    • Hispanic or Latino: 16.1%
    • Pacific Islander: 3.2%
    • White, not of Hispanic Origin: 48.4%
    • Mixed Race/Other: 3.2%
We maintain a unique welcoming and affirming environment for people of all genders and sexualities.

This is likely why more than 40% of our population in the last couple of years is a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Students feel safe to be themselves at CI.

We embrace neurodiversity.
    • Many of our students are on the autism spectrum and/or have ADHD or other learning differences.
    • We celebrate our students who think in alternative ways, find ways to make the curriculum accessible to them, and learn from them about how they see the world.
    • Many of our neurodiverse students are part of our Early-to-College program where they are taking courses at the community college while dual enrolled at CI.

CI Academy is one of the most DIVERSE private schools in Sacramento

We offer support for mental health.
    • All students at CI have a session with a life coach approximately once per month.
    • The life coach is NOT a therapist but rather functions as a sounding board where students can be heard about issues and challenges they are processing internally, with regards to relationships with others, or academically. The life coach provides an open ear and assists in coming up with a plan to cope with situations and/or better approach them.
    • Mental health has always been an important priority. In a post-pandemic world, there has been a spike in childhood anxiety and depression. At CI, we know our students well due to our small environment and seek to cultivate a culture of looking out for each other, asking for help when needed, and offering support where we can.
